About Hal Walter

Hal Walter has three decades experience in the publishing industry, including editing daily and weekly newspapers, magazines, Web materials, books and newsletters, in addition to a background in animal care and small ranch management. His writing has been published in more than 25 regional and national magazines, and he was chosen as a contributing essayist to the book, Living in the Runaway West, published by the High Country News. Hal’s resume also includes technical writing and editing for Transportation Technology Center Inc., the world’s largest railroad research facility, and photography published in many newspapers and magazines. He also is the author of Wild Burro Tales. Hal has developed a keen interest in the local food movement in recent years, and in 2011 helped Arkansas Valley Organic Growers launch the Farm Beet newsletter. Hal has a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Colorado, manages a small natural grass-fed beef herd in the Wet Mountains, and has won the Fairplay World Championship Pack-Burro Race six times. Check out Colorado Central magazine and its archives, where you can find more than 150 of Hal’s essays.
